Termites are insects which belong to order Isoptera. They are often called ” white ants“. However they do not resemble true ants in appearance despite them living in colonies.
Termites are mostly pale brown to white, have no constriction between thorax and abdomen. They have beaded antennae. Workers and soldiers are blind, sexless, wingless and have thin cuticles that are susceptible to desiccation in dry environments.
Ants on the other hand are vary in colour depending on the species and have an obvious construction between thorax and abdomen. Antennaes are variable and elbowed. They have two pairs of unequal wings. Ants have thin cuticles that are not susceptible to desiccation, so they can exist in dry exposed environments outside their colony.
